The former “Sexiest Man Alive,” Brad Pitt, gets our vote for 2014’s “Husband of the Year.” Here’s why.
He’s quick on his feet
In June 2014, an infamous red carpet prankster — Ukraine journalist Vitalii Sediuk — lunged at Pitt when he was attending Angelina Jolie‘s Maleficent premiere. Pitt told People magazine, “I took a step back; this guy had latched onto my lapels. I looked down and the nutter was trying to bury his face in my crotch, so I cracked him twice in the back of the head — not too hard — but enough to get his attention, because he did let go.” A guy who can think on his feet and isn’t afraid to do what is necessary to defuse a situation is pretty hot. Jolie agrees. She told the Associated Press that Pitt is a “strong man” who handled the situation perfectly.

He takes direction
Pitt isn’t afraid to take direction, literally, from his wife. Pitt and his new bride worked together in By the Sea, which Jolie directed. (How great would it be to get paid to bark orders at your husband, and he has to listen?) It takes a pretty secure guy to be OK with taking professional direction from his wife.

He’s sexy
As Pitt turns 51, he’s every bit as sexy as he was when he played the thieving cowboy in Thelma & Louise. Watching him morph into a supportive husband and father has only added to his appeal.

He’s classy
Instead of lashing out at Sony executives Amy Pascal and Scott Rudin for making disparaging comments about his wife in their hacked emails, Pitt took the high road. When asked to comment on the stolen emails, Pitt said, “I was just saying that I don’t see a difference in News Corp hacking phone calls and hacking emails. I don’t think we should be able to participate. I think someone’s conversation, whether in email or in person, should be private. We shouldn’t be participating and these sites that are disseminating them should stop. They won’t.” Pitt also scolded those who read the emails. “And we should stop reading them. We won’t. It’s more of an indictment on us, I think.”
He’s supportive
We were already thinking that Pitt was the stuff that “Husbands of the Year” are made of last year when he publicly supported Jolie as she went through a preventative double mastectomy. In 2014, Pitt has again showed his support at many of Jolie’s premieres, going so far as to attend an Unbroken premiere in her absence while she sat at home with chicken pox.
He’s funny
When attending the Unbroken premiere with three of his kids, Pitt joked about Jolie’s condition. “I thought about connecting the dots when she’s asleep or something.” Who doesn’t want a husband who is in touch with the lighter side of life? And we all remember his hilarious interview with Zach Galifianakis, where he was asked ridiculous questions like why he never showers and if he is familiar with the show Friends. (Here it is in case you missed it or in case you want to tickle your funny bone by watching it again.)
