Lyla is going to be looking for some tension relief in the next episode of Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce. The only question is: How?

Abby (Lisa Edelstein) starts dating a man who is a dad, married and the same guy she once had an affair with while she was married. In other words, this is a completely normal, healthy relationship. In our exclusive clip from the episode, Max and Ford are being honored at the Family Equality Gala with an award presented by LGBT activist Adele Northrop (Laverne Cox). But not everything goes according to plan at the ceremony.

Adele tells the audience that Ford and Max aren’t an example of what a gay family should look like, but rather an example of what all families should look like. It’s a great honor, but when their names are called, Adele is left holding the award for a while as the moment gets more than a little awkward. Finally, Ford comes out — looking pretty darn snazzy in his shiny blue coat and unique, um, tie? Or would that be an ascot? Whatever it is, he looks great in it.

Is Max really behind the scenes dealing with some sort of wardrobe disaster? Or could it be there was another kind of disaster that kept him from taking the stage with Ford? Did the newly wedded couple get into a lovers’ spat backstage? We’ll all have to watch the episode to find out what happens.
