It’s been more than four months since Jaycee Chan, son of action movie actor Jackie Chan, was detained in China for drug use.

But the 32-year-old actor and singer’s case is moving forward — Monday, he was indicted on the charge of sheltering others to use drugs, a crime that could cause him to spend up to three years in jail in China.
Jaycee is one of a group of celebrities arrested in China as part of the country’s efforts to “clean up social morals,” People reports. Others in the group were charged with crimes like drug use and hiring prostitutes, but according to the magazine, Jaycee’s alleged crime is more serious.

So, what’s next for Jaycee Chan?
According to People, others in the group of celebs that were arrested have already been released, but the same isn’t true for Jaycee, whose charge is among the most serious. He likely won’t be released before his trial, the date for which has not yet been announced — prosecutors announced the indictment with only a one-line statement on their website with no additional details.
Jaycee hasn’t publicly contested the charge. Video evidence shows a police raid on his apartment, where officers found marijuana, and a friend who was present admitted to using it there. The raid came following a June announcement by Chinese president, Xi Jinping, that declared drug use would be severely punished in the country in an effort to wipe it out altogether. Crackdowns resulted in 7,800 arrests in Beijing alone, according to People.
The arrest has been particularly embarrassing for Jackie Chan, who was named Beijing’s anti-drug ambassador in 2009.

“Regarding this issue with my son Jaycee, I feel very angry and very shocked,” Jackie Chan said in an August statement. “As a public figure, I’m very ashamed. As a father, I’m heartbroken. I would like to take this opportunity to say to Jaycee: you’ve done something wrong and you have to be responsible for the consequences,” he wrote. “I’m your dad and I’ll always be with you. We will face the road ahead of us together. I should also take some of the responsibility because as his dad, I didn’t teach him well. Therefore, on behalf of Jaycee and myself, I extend our deepest apologies to everyone for the negative impact this has caused on society.”
