Amy Adams was booted from her appearance on the Today show earlier this week at the very last minute. The NBC program must have had a really good reason to pull her interview, right?
Wrong. It already seemed pretty uncool for Today to yank Adams from their interview lineup on Monday simply because she refused to talk about the Sony controversy. They did, after all, allow her male peers to skate through their appearances without talking about the hack or the subsequently leaked information. Now, Adams says she never even gave a hard “no” when producers were trying to bully her in to talking about Sony and her American Hustle salary information, which was leaked.
“I expressed that I was uncomfortable. I said I would rather not add my voice to this conversation,” Adams told USA Today on Tuesday. “But it was clear they were drawing a hard line. That this would be part of the conversation.”

Adams says she walked away from discussions with producers fully prepared to speak about the hack, ready for the interview to go on. “I walked away from the conversation and went up to the room to do the interview. I assumed they were going to ask me about (Sony hacking). And I was prepared for that, to whatever degree I was prepared,” she said. “I was informed that they had decided to pull the interview,” she added. “I was confused and definitely frustrated. I still don’t understand.”
The Today show rationalized their actions in a statement to USA Today. “As a news program, the Today show doesn’t allow guests to put restrictions on interviews,” the statement said. “In this case, after hours of discussion we felt uncomfortable with the demands being made and we determined the best course of action for all parties involved was to cancel the interview.”
Adams may not be getting any love from Today, but the Weinstein Company, which is distributing her new project, Big Eyes, fully supports the actress. “We firmly stand behind Amy Adams,” a rep for the company told Us Weekly. “We are certain her fellow actors and directors all agree, she is nothing but the consummate professional both on and off set.”
