The Captain America actor made a surprise visit to the Boston-based Christopher’s Haven, a home away from home for kids battling with cancer, where he met Kenny Botting (who is obsessed with the on-screen character) on Monday, Dec. 29 — and the little boy couldn’t have been happier.

Botting is just 9 years old and has a brain tumor. He and his mother and sister have been staying at Christopher’s Haven while he undergoes treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital, WBZ-TV reports. But his day was brightened when Evans came bearing gifts, signed autographs and posed for pictures with the delighted little boy.

The Massachusetts-born actor is in town for an event held at Fenway Park, to help raise money for Christopher’s Haven. And in addition to meeting his screen idol, Botting even got to give the actor a tour of the home.

It’s their strength that gives me strength,” Evans said according to WBZ-TV. “No matter what hurdles are in my life it’s nothing compared to what these families go through, so any way I can bring a smile it’s worth it.”
