People magazine reports that, in a move that surprised literally everyone everywhere, Joseph Gordon-Levitt got secretly married.

The mag confirmed that JGL married his start-up CEO girlfriend, Tasha McCauley, in a very intimate ceremony at their home Dec. 20. Can you hear all the hearts breaking?

The 500 Days of Summer star has always been careful to keep his private life private, but he revealed in September 2013 on his first-ever appearance on SiriusXM’s Howard Stern Show that he and McCauley were dating.

“I have a girlfriend but I tend not to really like to talk about it in public,” he said on the show. “She is not in show business.”

JGL then refused to say how long they had been together, but did say they met through mutual friends. And when asked whether it was true love, he replied, “Oh, jeez, man! Come on! This is getting private.”

Welp. Now we know the answer to that one.

McCauley is the successful cofounder and CEO of Fellow Robots, a robotics company based at NASA Research Park in Silicon Valley, California. In a past interview about why he keeps his love life so on the down low, JGL told reporters that his lady isn’t a big fan of the kind of public life stardom can cause.

“The girl that I’m with, she really doesn’t want to be a part of it,” he said. “You can imagine not wanting to have that kind of scrutiny.”

And Joseph has his own reasons for keeping quiet, too.

“I get up in movies and I play other people, so when the audience is watching me in movies, I don’t want them thinking about me and who I’m dating, and blah blah blah,” he once said. “I want them to see the character, the story that I’m telling.”
