Jamie Dornan and BDSM: How he really prepared for Fifty Shades

by

Fifty Shades of Grey fans are overjoyed that it’s not long to wait until the much anticipated erotic romance hits the screens on Valentine’s Day. However, the film has not been without its critics.

There have been claims that the film, adapted from E. L. James’s best-selling novel, is anti-feminist. But Jamie Dornan, who stars as the dark and brooding Christian Grey, disagrees.

“I can understand why people say tying a woman up and spanking her is misogynistic. But actually, more men are submissive than women. Very powerful men,” he revealed during an interview with Elle U.K. “It’s a far bigger scene than I imagined: In pretty much any city in the world that you could name, people want to get spanked with a paddle with studs on it.”

Dornan previously went to a sex dungeon to expose himself to the BDSM scene and do research for the hotly anticipated film. So, what did he think of the experience?

“I went there, they offered me a beer, and they did… whatever they were into. I saw a dominant with one of his two submissives. I was like, ‘Come on guys, I know I’m not paying for this, but I am expecting a show,” he says. “It was an interesting evening.”

Dornan also commented on his character’s relationship with Anastasia Steele (played by Dakota Johnson) and how there is more to their romance than just sex, whips and handcuffs.

“The love story is more important than the BDSM aspect. I mean, we are going to tell a love story, you know, it can’t just be what happens in the Red Room, that’s not a film. There’s so much more going on than that,” he told the publication.
