Ricky Martin is not the first celebrity to fall victim to a death hoax, but the Latino singer’s death claim was so elaborate that it caused his fans to really freak out.

Fans feared for the well-being of the singer, whose real name is Enrique Martín Morales, after a YouTube video began circulating, claiming that the “Livin’ la Vida Loca” hit maker had been involved in a car crash on a freeway in Los Angeles, California.
The fabricated video was so elaborate that it included a news report of the singer’s death, claiming that he died on New Year’s Day and that the report came from the sheriff’s department in Marin County, north of San Francisco.

The footage included a horrific car crash with someone being flung from the vehicle, as well as fake comments from Australian Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe. Many fans fell for the hoax and took to social media to express their sadness. However, Martin chose to see the humor in the situation and took to Instagram to let the world know that he was having a great time — in heaven.
On Jan. 4, the singer posted a picture of a seaside destination with the caption, “Hello from #heaven.” The Voice Mexico coach then posted another picture which showed a silhouette of himself looking at a sunset, and he teased with the caption once again, writing, “#Sunset in #heaven.”
