Kanye West recently collaborated with the legendary Paul McCartney on a new song called “Only One.”
While the song has gotten great feedback and a new generation has been turned on to the great McCartney, a lot of people are freaking out right now because of tweets generated about Kanye’s “new discovery.” That’s right; some Kanye fans in the Twittersphere are claiming that this is the first time they have ever heard of McCartney and are even referring to him as a young man, hot on the scene.

This has got to be sarcasm, right? Surely there aren’t people on this planet who haven’t ever heard of Paul McCartney. At least, we’re hoping that’s the case. Just in case, here’s some info Kanye fans might want to educate themselves on before they make outrageous claims that Yeezus is boosting McCartney’s career.

1. He was in a little band called the Beatles
Ringo Starr, John Lennon, George Harrison and McCartney were the fab four who created hits such as “Yesterday,” “In My Life,” and “Penny Lane.” Hopefully, these song titles are ringing some bells. The British band started recording in 1960 and by the time the group dissolved in 1970, McCartney had played bass, drums and the keyboard, in addition to composing, writing and singing for the Beatles. Beatlemania is a huge part of rock and roll history.
2. He’s the U.K.’s richest musician
Yes, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have more money than they know what to do with, but so does McCartney. With a fortune worth more than $1 billion, McCartney has topped the Sunday Times rich list since it was put together in 1989.
3. He’s played Coachella
McCartney may be in his 70s, but he can still rock out with the youngsters.
4. He’s collaborated with Stevie Wonder
In 1982, McCartney released “Ebony and Ivory,” a duet with Wonder. It was McCartney’s 28th single to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 100.
5. And he’s worked with Michael Jackson
McCartney was featured on Jackson’s Thriller album in the song, “The Girl is Mine,” and they also worked together on “Say Say Say,” another 1982 hit for McCartney.
6. He’s an activist
McCartney is a major supporter of vegetarianism as a means to save the environment. “The biggest change anyone could make in their own lifestyle would be to become vegetarian. I would urge everyone to think about taking this simple step to help our precious environment and save it for the children of the future,” he said in an interview with PETA in 2008.
7. He has also had a wildly successful solo career
McCartney was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 1999 and was called “the most successful composer and recording artist of all time” by the Guinness World Records in 1979, according to The Paul McCartney Encyclopedia. As of 2014, he had sold more than 15.5 million RIAA certified units and the Beatles topped the charts at 178 units in the United States alone, according to the RIAA website. To put that in perspective, Jay Z comes in 63rd on the list with 29 million units, and we couldn’t find Kanye on the list.
