Stephen Fry set to marry a man 30 years his junior

Pride would be an appropriate word to describe the feeling Stephen Fry has for his relationship.

The 57-year-old comedian has “set the wheels in motion” to marry his boyfriend, 27-year-old Elliott Spencer. Fry has given formal notice at the registry office in east England, near the town where the Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows actor grew up.

He took to social media to tweet at his more than 8 million followers (yes, you read that right… 8 million. Go follow him now if you’re not, everyone else in the world is!) to confirm what British tabloids had already published. He said, “Oh. It looks like a certain cat is out of a certain bag.”

Fry’s personal assistant confirmed the news, saying, “Stephen Fry is very happy and proud to say that he has set the wheels in motion for a wedding sometime in the future but no date has been set due to a busy work schedule.”

The outpouring on Twitter was understandably large with congratulations and well wishes for the happy couple. Fry responded with, “Your adorable tweets are bringing me close to sobbing.”

Fry has always been open about his mental illness and his battles with depression and drug addiction as chronicled in many of his books and biographies. But he now says he, “has a new lust for life,” and that Spencer gives him hope, and they thrive off each other. He, of course, is very grateful to all of his fans for their kind words and tweets. “Thank you all SO much for your kind congratulations. Deeply touched xxx,” he tweeted.
