Game of Thrones Season 5 gets extra-large IMAX promo

Game of Thrones is about to get even bigger with a special event set for later this month.

Variety has reported that the network and the theatrical distributor have struck a deal to air Game of Thrones on IMAX.

Running from Jan. 23 through Jan. 29, fans will get to see the final two episodes of Season 4, plus an exclusive Season 5 trailer on the massive screens. To enhance fans’ enjoyment, Game of Thrones will be digitally remastered so as to better fit within the IMAX format. Fans will truly see the show like they never have before.

Though no price has been set yet, tickets are set to go on sale at IMAX.com in the next couple weeks for the 150 theaters that will be running the special screening across the U.S.

Pamela Levine, chief marketing officer at HBO had this to say about the history-making event:

“The cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the IMAX format. We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event.”

IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond added:

“IMAX always seeks innovative ways to provide moviegoers a unique and differentiated experience and today’s partnership with HBO and Game of Thrones achieves just that. This deal also furthers our efforts to offer exhibitors the opportunity to participate in alternative forms of content in a new and exciting way.”
