Game of Thrones‘ Kit Harington’s hair looks the same — stop speculating

Game of Thrones fans appear to have lost their minds over a haircut, but to be honest with you, the hysteria might be a little premature.

Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow on the hit HBO show, attended the London premiere of his new film, Testament of Youth, on Monday, and his appearance is causing quite the stir. No longer sporting the longer locks we’ve come to associate with his character, Harington instead showed off a shorter, more slicked-back ‘do.

Given Harington told Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan back in September that his contract prevents him from cutting his hair, fans have gone into a collective meltdown, believing Harington’s new appearance is indicative that his character will bite the proverbial dust in the show’s upcoming Season 5.

“I’m just not allowed to cut it, and I didn’t realize this until recently. I wanted to cut it and [the producers] were like, ‘No, no no, that won’t be happening,'” he said on Live! With Kelly and Michael.

But fans need not fret that the shorter look is an indication that Harington is no longer under contract and, therefore, Jon Snow will meet his maker when GoT returns to our screens.

First, Harington recently told the Independent that filming for Season 5 has already been completed. Why is that relevant? Because Harington has been known to get a trim between seasons, and we can’t blame him: All those curls and that lusciousness must generate a lot of heat (both for him and for adoring fans) when his hair is long, so he probably likes to take some respite when he’s not filming.

But the fun thing about hair is that when you cut it, it grows back. When Harington has previously lopped off some of his locks following the completion of a season, it has always grown back to the required length in time for filming the next season. Human biology is amazing!

Also of note is that Snow has sported varying hair lengths on the show, so Harington’s current hair status isn’t too far off from some of Snow’s shorter lengths. Plus, Harington appeared to be employing hair gel at this movie’s premiere, giving his mane a slicker appearance and creating the illusion that it’s shorter than it is. Also, as if he would cut his hair knowing it would spoil the show for everybody. He’s classier than that.

So, fear not; our in-depth hair analysis suggests there’s nothing to be concerned about just yet, and it’s more than likely Snow and his abundant curls won’t be departing from the show anytime soon.

Hear that, people? Stop pulling your hair out over Harington’s hair! However, if you must, you can compare and contrast his new style with the old one over at The Huffington Post.

Game of Thrones returns for Season 5 on Sunday, April 12, on HBO.
