During a recent trip to Sin City, the “Love Me Harder” collaborator was accused of punching a police officer in the face, Entertainment Weekly reports. The site says the incident happened early Saturday morning. According to EW, its reporters were told by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department that patrol officers responded to a call at 4:42 a.m. at the Cromwell Hotel, where they were asked to assist special events officers already on duty there with what sounds like a pretty good-sized brawl — it was described in the police report as a “large verbal or physical altercation.”
According to EW, when officers arrived to the scene, the special events officers there were attempting to break up the crowd. One officer reportedly pulled The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, to the side, where the singer punched the officer in the head, according to reports. Then, the report continues, the responding patrol officers took The Weeknd into custody and booked him for misdemeanor battery of a protected person.

EW reports the police department says the singer was released on bail, and it looks like he’s celebrating his close call — he posted a snap to his Instagram of himself boarding a private jet with the caption, “Escaped from Las Vegas.”
According to his website, The Weeknd isn’t currently on tour, so no shows were disrupted by his arrest. He’s set to play California’s Coachella in April.
