The Selma cast and filmmakers are proving that they weren’t just in it to make a buck or win an Oscar.
The movie’s cast and crew will honor Martin Luther King Jr. and the message of Selma with a fitting march in Alabama on Monday, MLK Day.

Producers Oprah Winfrey, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, director Ava DuVernay and stars David Oyelowo and Common will all participate, according to Paramount Pictures, who made the announcement Friday.
The movie chronicles King’s leadership and his campaign for equal voting rights, especially via his epic march from Selma, Alabama, to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1965. The march forever altered history because it led to President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
According to the New York Daily News, the film’s cast and crew will also be participating in other events around the city of Selma. Alabama congresswoman Terri Sewell will be moderating a discussion panel at Selma High School with the stars, and free screenings will be offered in select local theaters.

Selma already had a relatively good showing at the Golden Globes this year. The film won the Best Original Song category and was nominated in three other categories. As for Oscar nominations, Selma was snubbed overall, but the film did nab a spot in the running for Best Picture and Best Song.
