Will Ferrell throws a basketball at a cheerleader’s face — but why? (VIDEO)

There’s one cheerleader who is definitely not a fan of Will Ferrell, because he hit her in the face with a basketball at a Pelicans-Lakers game on Wednesday night.

It all took place during halftime of the game as the Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy actor appeared to be attempting to take a half-court shot at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. However, instead of heading into the basket, the ball headed right for a cheerleaders face.

Don’t worry, though — the incident was staged for a film shoot that, according to Time magazine, is for Ferrell’s upcoming role in Daddy’s Home, which he is filming alongside Mark Wahlberg and Linda Cardellini — but the ball to the face still looked extremely painful.

The Pelicans cheerleader can be seen getting hit right in the face with the basketball, and as she falls to the floor, the rest of her team gathers around her (the reaction from basketball fans is a mixture of boos and cheers). And what happened to Ferrell? He was escorted out of the arena by a faux security team.

Within minutes, social media exploded as fans shared pictures of Ferrell’s surprise visit and what happened to that poor cheerleader. The publicity from this incident will probably make it one of the most eagerly awaited scenes in the movie.
