HBO renews Togetherness and we could not be more excited about it

Everybody, rejoice! Togetherness is coming back for a second season and we are doing a jig at the mere thought of it.

If you haven’t been watching Togetherness, then you should be reevaluating your life and making room for this show in it. If you have been watching Togetherness, then you should be hugging everyone you know in celebration of the fact that HBO has just announced it is renewing the half-hour comedy for a much-deserved second season, which will begin production in Los Angeles soon and will make its way to our screens in 2016.

The show, which was created by Steve Zissis and the Duplass brothers — Mark and Jay — has aired only three episodes of its debut season so far, but we are already enamored with it. It seems Mark and Jay Duplass also have some amorous feelings to share.

“We began our love affair with HBO in our parents’ living room in 1983, and to have these brilliant creative people put a ring on our fingers with a second season of Togetherness is a real-life dream come true,” they shared upon HBO’s announcement.

It’s safe to say news of the show’s renewal is also our real-life dream come true. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: There is so much to love about this new show. Its exploration of the marriage between Brett (Mark Duplass) and Michelle (Melanie Lynskey) — who really love each other, but have lost their spark — is a subtle one and unlike anything we’ve seen on the same subject on television so far. Throw in Michelle’s sister, Tina (Amanda Peet), and Brett’s best friend, Alex (Zissis), and you have TV’s most wonderfully entertaining foursome living under one roof.

Aside from rooting for Brett and Michelle to get back on the same track, we are also desperate for Tina and Alex to get together. Their scenes deliver much of the show’s comedy and we are immediately filled with joy whenever they share screen time. And now that we know a second season is a go, it’s entirely plausible we will get our wish.

And while this show definitely delivers the laughs, it also delivers a major dose of heart and charm, making it a lovely and heartwarming addition to our TV viewing schedule. We can’t wait to see what else is in store for the rest of Season 1 and when Season 2 hits our screens next year.
