Football star Johnny Manziel has reportedly checked in to a treatment center following a tough year.
The Cleveland Browns quarterback, who is also a former Heisman trophy-winner, entered rehab last week, although the exact reason why is not immediately clear. However, his camp and family have released a statement about his decision to seek help.

“Brad Beckworth, friend and advisor to Manziel and his family, has confirmed that Johnny entered treatment on Wednesday,” reads the statement. “Johnny knows there are areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend and teammate and he thought the off-season was the right time to take this step.
“On behalf of Johnny and his family, we’re asking for privacy until he rejoins the team in Cleveland,” the statement concludes.

Manziel’s behavior off the field has raised many eyebrows, with some of his antics including drinking champagne while in a pool floating on an inflatable swan at an X Games party in Austin, Texas. And his partying appeared to have been affecting his career, too, as he reportedly missed a treatment session last December after partying the night before.
ESPN’s Skip Bayless previously said he’d spoken with several people close to Manziel and was convinced that he is an alcoholic and a liar, adding, “I believe that even [Johnny’s] parents are fed up to the point that they believe he needs to get some help.”

However, Manziel’s team is standing firmly behind him and intend to support him throughout this process.
According to Us Weekly, Browns general manager Ray Farmer issued a statement that reads, “We respect Johnny’s initiative in this decision and will fully support him throughout this process. Our players’ health and well-being will always be of the utmost importance to the Cleveland Browns.”
He continued, “We continually strive to create a supportive environment and provide the appropriate resources, with our foremost focus being on the individual and not just the football player. Johnny’s privacy will be respected by us during this very important period and we hope others will do the same.”
