When I first heard about the Star Wars stand-alone film coming in 2016, I didn’t really get it. Especially since J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens comes out this December.
But the more I hear, the better the film sounds. Especially now that we’re getting casting news.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, TheTheory of Everything actress, Felicity Jones, has nabbed the female lead. Though little is know about the production right now, rumor has it the story will follow a group of bounty hunters who try to steal the Death Star. But take that with a grain of salt because Disney and Lucasfilm are staying so tight-lipped on the project, not even the force could pry it out of them.
We do know Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) is directing and Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass, Cinderella) will write the script. Gary Whitta wrote the first draft of the story, but it’s currently undergoing rewrites now that Weitz is on board.

Tatiana Maslany and Rooney Mara were also reportedly being considered for the role after they were confirmed meeting, reading and testing for producers in Los Angeles last week.
Even more exciting news: Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul is rumored to be in one of the top spots for the male lead. Some sites have speculated he could be playing a young Han Solo, which would just be awesome in my book.
Hunky Venezuelan actor Édgar Ramírez’s name has also been thrown into the mix of potential male leads for the film.
