Ed Sheeran is latest celebrity attacked by Noel Gallagher

When he’s not fighting with his brother Noel Gallagher is slating other artists. Welcome to the club, Ed Sheeran.

Remember when Noel Gallagher incurred the wrath of millions of Kylie fans by calling the Australian pop icon a “singing budgie” and “a demonic little idiot?” Well, he hasn’t mellowed in his old age when it comes to other artists.

This time it’s Ed Sheeran who’s been in the firing line. Gallagher told NME that he can’t “live in a world where Ed Sheeran sells out Wembley.” The former Oasis guitarist raged after hearing that Sheeran will be playing three dates in front of a sell-out crowd at the London stadium this summer. “When you hear that kind of polished pop and then there’s a ginger guy with a f**king guitar it seems subversive, but it’s f**king not,” he ranted.

Gallagher also took a pop at every single artist who sells enough records to reach No. 1 in the U.K. charts: “Every single song in the Top 10 is the same s**t with a different voice,” he said. “If you’re number one in the charts now, it automatically means you must be s**t.”

Last month it was rock band Bastille he scorned. “Music is very middle class,” Gallagher told BBC Radio 4 (whose listeners are, probably, all middle class). “I’d have eaten Bastille alive in an afternoon in the Nineties, one interview, destroyed, gone, never to be heard of again.”

He doesn’t like a certain record-breaking boyband either: “I come to the Ivor Novellos because One Direction aren’t invited,” he famously said at the 2013 event.

Paloma Faith and Emeli Sandé haven’t got off the hook either: “Paloma Faith? Do me a favour. Who’s f***ing decided she’s a star?” he said. “Emeli Sandé? That is f***ing music for grannies. I don’t get it.”

Likewise the Kaiser Chiefs: “The Monkees haven’t split up, they’re just going under the name of the Kaiser Chiefs. I did drugs for 18 years and I never got that bad as to say, ‘You know what? I think the Kaiser Chiefs are brilliant.'”

Oh, and Mark Ronson: “He [Ronson] wants to write his own tunes instead of ruining everyone else’s. Mark Ronson needs to learn three chords on the guitar and write a tune.”

Let’s face it, we could compile a book of Gallagher’s insults. But what a depressing read that would be. Let’s leave it to Mr. Sheeran himself to have the last word on the matter. Sweet.
