Garbage singer Shirley to Kanye: You make a mockery of all musicians

by

My teenage self is currently rejoicing for one of my rock idols still being as awesome as I remember 15 years later.

Scottish rocker and all-around badass Shirley Manson has sadly been a bit quiet in the past few years since her band, Garbage, took a break from making awesome, angsty garage rock.

The “Stupid Girl” singer took to her Facebook page to air her grievances about what seems to be the most talked about rant lately and one that we can now confirm has pissed everyone off: Kanye West‘s comments after the Grammys.

In case you’ve been living under a rock: West decided to attack Album of the Year winner Beck in an after-Grammy interview, saying (amongst other insane things), “When you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration and we, as musicians, have to inspire people who go to work every day and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them to another place.”

Whatever the hell that means….

Manson’s letter to West, as of right now, has been shared a whopping 15,000 times and has 65,000 “likes.” So, I’d say her opinion is being pretty well-received.

Manson’s lovely little note to Mr. West said, “Dear Kanye West, It is YOU who is so busy disrespecting artistry. You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK. You make yourself look small and petty and spoilt. In attempting to reduce the importance of one great talent over another, you make a mockery of all musicians and music from every genre, including your own.”

I wonder if West realizes Beck is a prolific musician, having mastered more than a dozen instruments, and that he writes his own music and lyrics. Oh, and he doesn’t need auto-tune to make his voice sound palatable to the audience. I digress.

Manson closes her letter with, “Grow up and stop throwing your toys around. You are making yourself look like a complete twat.”

And then she echoes all of our thoughts by saying, “P.S. I am pretty certain Beyoncé doesn’t need you fighting any battles on her account. Seems like she’s got everything covered perfectly well on her own.”

Seriously, who thinks if Queen Bey had a problem with anything that she couldn’t handle it herself? No one, that’s who. Well, except obviously Kanye.
