Just because Jon Stewart is leaving The Daily Show, doesn’t mean he isn’t still bringing some serious heat where it is deserved.

After announcing and addressing his retirement on the show, Stewart spent a chunk of Wednesday’s show bashing Kansas and Alabama for their homophobic and, frankly, just mean behavior lately.
“As you know, our country has been making very positive strides in LGBT equality, but don’t worry, Kansas is trying to fix that,” Stewart said. “I guess Brownback clicked his heels three times and said, ‘There’s no place like homophobia.'”
Personally, I think Kansas is acting less like Dorothy and more like the Wicked Witch.

Stewart was specifically addressing Governor Brownback’s decision to take away employee protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. That means that, legally, LGBT workers in Kansas can now be harassed and fired just because of their sexual preferences.
And while Kansas is trying to take away LGBT rights, Alabama is doing everything it can to stop same-sex marriages. Alabama chief justice, Roy Moore, recently ordered local probate judges to stop performing LGBT marriages, despite the fact that a judge has already decided that ban is unconstitutional.
Stewart also had choice words for that decision, “Huh, so an Alabama official circumventing a federal ruling in order to restrict civil rights of a minority population. I guess he was thinking, ‘Hey, that Selma movie was a hit. Better start laying the groundwork for a sequel.'”
But, seriously.

All the while, a beautiful image of two grooms atop a wedding cake is underscored with “Wedding Crushers.” Personally, I like the Selma analogy better.
But whether it’s The Wizard of Oz, Wedding Crashers or Selma that Stewart chooses to spoof, they all do a perfectly wonderful job of demonstrating the horror of this situation.
Luckily, in an update today, a U.S. judge ordered Alabama to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
