Why won’t anyone collaborate with Kelly Clarkson?

Why doesn’t anyone want to work with Kelly Clarkson?

More:Kelly Clarkson, is that you? Or is this Jimmy Eat World?

Despite the fact that she was the first-ever winner on American Idol, as well as her three Grammy Awards, two No. 1 albums, three No. 1 singles and eight top 10 hits in the 13 years since she first earned that crown, Clarkson says she just can’t find anyone who’s willing to collaborate with her.

“I honestly would collaborate with a lot of people, but everyone usually says no,” Clarkson said in a Tuesday interview with BBC Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw. “I’m not kidding you. I have legitimately asked several people that I’m not going to call out, and that’s cool, but I don’t know.”

She continued, saying, “I ask good people, I don’t want to sing with crap people, so I mean, I ask people who are great vocalists, but I’m not going to point out anyone. I have asked several people… sometimes I feel like I have the plague or leprosy, they’re like, ‘If you get too close…’ I don’t know.”

It’s funny Clarkson should mention that she doesn’t want to work with “crap people,” because she’s drawn criticism in the past for not playing so nice with others. She can be downright nasty about other artists’ work, especially on Twitter — like when she tweeted after the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, at which huge stars like Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry performed, saying, “Just saw a couple performances from the VMA’s last night. 2 words…. #pitchystrippers (sic).”

If I were a pop star and someone called me a #pitchystripper, I guess I’d probably be reluctant to work with that person, too.

But there’s hope for a Clarkson collab in the future — the “Stronger” singer revealed she managed to bag one big name: John Legend.

“I got John Legend to say yes and he’s cool,” she said. “I can get country artists to sing with me and John Legend! I’m gonna keep John Legend. He’s super credible and talented. I feel very good about myself with that one.”

And if all else fails, she can always give Justin Guarini a call — we’re sure he’d love to share her spotlight again. From Justin to Kelly part two, anyone?
