Just when you thought you knew all the sordid details of Kobe Bryant‘s shocking 2004 rape case, the NBA star revealed a shocking new piece of information.
In the “2004” episode of the Showtime docu-series Muse about Bryant’s life and career, he said that his wife Vanessa was expecting the couple’s second child right in the thick of the Colorado rape case against him — and the stress caused her to have a miscarriage.

“We were expecting… and um… expecting our second child during that time… and there was just so much stress, she actually, she actually miscarried,” an emotional Kobe admitted during the segment.
“It’s something… I have a real hard time dealing with that ’cause I felt like it was just my fault. The reality is it happened because of me… that’s something I have to deal with. Something I gotta carry forever.”

Kobe was accused of sexual assault by a Colorado woman employed by a hotel he was staying at prior to having surgery. He admitted to police he had a one-night stand with her but denied it was rape, calling it completely consensual, and later said the same in a press conference with Vanessa sitting at his side.
The criminal charges were eventually dropped when the accuser refused to testify. Bryant then conceded that it was possible that while he thought the encounter was consensual, the alleged victim did not. A civil case was settled for an undisclosed sum, and when it was all over, Kobe rewarded Vanessa for her loyalty with a $4 million, 8-carat diamond ring.
Vanessa filed for divorce from the MVP in 2011, but the couple reconciled in 2013. The couple has two daughters, Natalia and Gianna.
