“Before I came to know the Lord, I had been struggling in my self-worth, just feeling like I needed to measure up with all of my friends around me,” Michelle says in the clip. “I began to have a wrong view of who I was, I gained weight so easily.”
However, she is now focused on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and the clip shows Michelle working out with her high-school friend, who admits to never even realizing that Michelle had been insecure about her weight.
“I ended up starting a bad habit of making myself get sick after I would eat, especially if I had more food than I felt like I should eat,” she continues. “And it was destructive.”

This is not the first time the mom of 19 has spoken out about her past struggles, but she has chosen to do so in the hopes that her story might help someone else overcome what they are dealing with.
Last year, she admitted to battling bulimia when she was a teenager in the book Growing Up Duggar, which was penned by her four oldest daughters.
Speaking to People magazine at the time, Duggar said, “I have been open with my struggles with the kids before. We talk about how God has brought us out of different things along life’s way. When the girls were writing their book, they brought this up and I thought, if my sharing it is going to help another young lady, then I want to share it.”
