When she brushed off the Mani Cam at the SAG Awards, little did Julianne Moore know it would help push the #AskHerMore campaign further.
She is now explaining why she skipped it in her most recent interview with Harper’s Bizarre. She said, “I’m 54 years old. I can’t make my fingers walk; it’s humiliating! A guy asked me to lift up my skirt to show them my shoes, and I said, ‘I don’t need to do that. Let’s keep some dignity.'”
The humiliating and quite frankly belittling bit was absent from the Oscars, thankfully. We can mark that one down in the W column.

Moore explains it isn’t that she doesn’t think red carpet fashion isn’t important or that she and other actresses don’t think about it. After all, the gowns and the fashions are beautiful works of art, but she said, “We’d all be lying if we said we aren’t watching what we eat.”
Wanting to look your best on the red carpet is not what’s wrong with award shows — only focusing on women looking their best is.
During her interview, Moore continued to champion feminism, even if she didn’t directly mean to. She so easily and unintentionally empowers women it’s like she just can’t help but burst with feminism, as if it is just the fabric she is made of. She says she admires other actresses, young and old.
“Women are fabulous. I like our camaraderie, our similarities, how we collaborate. When my daughter was born, I looked at her in the bassinet, and I said, ‘You’re one of us,'” Moore shared.

The way she thinks of all women as “in this together” is so inspiring, especially during a time when it seems like other women only want to tear each other down with name-calling and body shaming. She says she loves Catherine Deneuve, thinks Emma Stone is fabulous, she just loves Kristen Stewart and thinks Rosamund Pike looks “f***ing awesome.”
If you don’t feel moved to help bring up and bring together all women after reading Moore’s interview, then you might not have a pulse.
Women everywhere should take note: This is how we empower and build up other women. This is how to love your body and everyone else’s body, too. This is how to be a supportive woman. I’m just going to go ahead and say it: Julianne Moore is one of my new heroes.
