She’s been chasing fame for a long time, never quite making the mark on the music industry that she longs for, but now Natalia Kills is all over the world’s press. However it’s not for her music ability but rather her ability to reduce a contestant on New Zealand’s X Factor to tears.
Bradford-born Kills’ comments to Joe Irvine were so harsh that the 28-year-old singer/songwriter was fired from the judging panel immediately after Sunday’s live show. Since then there has been an outpouring of support for Irvine on social media, with thousands accusing Kills of bullying.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m just going to state the obvious, we have a doppelgänger in our midst,” Kills began. “As an artist who respects creative integrity and intellectual property, I am disgusted at how much you’ve copied my husband.”
(Yes Irvine was wearing a suit and had his hair slicked back.)
Kills didn’t stop there. On a roll she continued, “From the hair to the suit, do you not have any value for respect for originality? You’re a laughing stock. It’s cheesy, it’s disgusting, I personally found it artistically atrocious. I am embarrassed to be sitting here in your presence having to even dignify you with an answer of my opinion.”
Her husband of 10 months, New Zealand-born musician, singer, songwriter and producer WIlly Moon, added, “To me it feels just a little bit cheap and absurd. It’s like Norman Bates dressing up in his mother’s clothing, it feels a little creepy and I feel like you are going to stitch someone’s skin to your face and then kill everybody in the audience.” Moon was also fired.
Here’s the shocking moment in full:

Of course most of the U.K. is now wondering, who the hell is this woman? She’s worked with Madonna and David Guetta but is barely known in her home country.
Kills was born in West Yorkshire and spent much of her childhood travelling between the U.K., Spain and Jamaica with her parents. At the age of nine she started acting, going on to appear in the BBC’s All About Me, as well as small parts in Casualty, Doctors and Coronation Street.
She left home at 14 and said she spent her teenage years “with no money, fighting with my boyfriend, joining a cult and getting in trouble with the police.” She has also spoken about her struggles with depression and feeling suicidal in her younger years.
Kills released her album “Trouble” in 2013, saying she wanted to use it to confess all the bad things she had ever done, such as “stalking my ex-boyfriend, trying to set fire to the house with us both in it, getting taken away by the police, leaving home at 15, making out with strangers and running away to Paris.” The album failed to chart internationally with the exception of the U.S. Billboard 200, where it entered at number 70 with sales of 6,000 copies.
Finally everyone is talking about Natalia Kills in the U.K. But is being labelled as a “bully” really worth the fame?
