Connie Britton, known for her appearance on the popular FX anthology’s first season, just nabbed a role in its spinoff series, American Crime Story. The casting was announced on Twitter Monday, and to say it has fans excited might be an understatement.

This will be the first time Nashville star Britton will work with powerhouse TV director Ryan Murphy since AHS, though the two have previously hinted at their desire to work together again.

“We’ve been talking about trying to work together again,” she told reporters at a March 17 panel of American Horror Story actresses. “Hopefully we’re going to find something, whether it’s [American Horror Story] Hotel or it’s something else.”

And it sounds like the new role was already on her radar.

“I’m really interested in American Crime,” she added at the time. “I think that’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Murphy announced the casting move on Twitter, also revealing that Britton will play Faye Resnick, a friend of Nicole Brown Simpson’s. The first season of American Crime Story, The People v. OJ Simpson, will chronicle the 1995 criminal trial in which football star, O.J. Simpson, was acquitted of his wife’s murder.

According to Us Weekly, it’s not necessarily the role Britton wanted — she hoped to play Nicole Brown Simpson, before she realized Simpson’s murdered wife likely wouldn’t be a character on the show.

She’s dead, right?” Britton reportedly joked. “I can’t play her, right?”

Resnick famously made some guest appearances on TheReal Housewives of Beverly Hills. She was never a regular cast member, Us Weekly reports, but she appeared as a friend of Kyle Richards’ on several episodes, including “Dinner Party From Hell.”
