J.K. Rowling answers fan’s question about gay Dumbledore with perfect tweet

J.K. Rowling previously revealed that her much-loved Harry Potter character Albus Dumbledore — who was portrayed on-screen by first Richard Harris and then Michael Gambon after Harris’ death — was gay, but yesterday a fan asked her a question about the Hogwarts headmaster’s sexuality.

Taking to Twitter, a fan with the user handle @anakocovic21 asked the author, “I wonder why you said that Dumbledore is a gay because I can’t see him that way?”

Rowling’s response to this question was simple but brilliant, which is why it’s stealing all the headlines today. And it has already been retweeted 11,000 times and favorited 14, 000 times.

The fan replied to the author, thanking her for her response and hailing her as an inspiration, a sentiment many share.

The British author previously shed light on Dumbledore’s sexuality in 2007. She said, “Dumbledore is gay,” and went on to explain that he had once been in love with his childhood friend Gellert Grindelwald — who later went on to become a dark wizard and his rival, The Telegraph reports.
