Former pop star Sarah Harding has an exciting summer ahead of her — she’s joining the cast of ITV soap Coronation Street and it seems her presence on the famous Manchester cobbles will cause a bit of friction.
In a statement released yesterday the show’s producer Stuart Blackburn said: “Sarah is proving to be a gifted and exciting actor and I’m absolutely delighted to have her on board, the viewers are in for a treat as her character will be right at the heart of a massive new story for the Barlows.”
Ooh, can we assume that sparks are going to fly between Harding’s character and Corrie‘s resident troublemaker, Tracy Barlow?
“I am extremely excited to be joining Coronation Street,” said 33-year-old Harding, who shot to fame as one fifth of Girls Aloud. “As a fan of the show it is a huge honour for me to join the cast. I can’t wait to get started!!”

It’s not Harding’s first foray into acting with roles in Bad Day, Freefall, Run for Your Wife and St. Trinians 2 under her belt. Last November she shared a snap of herself looking very at home on the Corrie set, during a visit as part of her charity mission on behalf of Good Morning Britain‘s Meal Appeal.

Maybe Harding will get some tips from her soon-to-be colleague Kym Marsh, another reality show pop star turned soap star who made such an impression as Michelle Connor that she won four “Best Newcomer” awards during her first year on the show.
Harding was always the feisty one in Girls Aloud so we’re looking forward to seeing how she comes across in one of the country’s best-loved soaps. Will Tracy Barlow finally meet her match?
