If you still miss cult ’90s TV hit Gladiators you won’t want to miss ITV’s new Saturday night game show Ninja Warrior UK.
According to host Rochelle Humes it’s “the toughest obstacle course on TV ever.” She told Nick Grimshaw on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show that “it’s a real family show. It’s a Gladiators meets Total Wipeout sort of thing. It’s full-on, it’s hard and it really tests people.”
Ninja Warrior is based on the Japanese show Sasuke and is already a big hit in the United States, Sweden and Malaysia. Over here 250 competitors will start the course and the first to complete it by running up a huge tower called Mount Midoriyama will be crowned the Ninja Warrior U.K.
Contestants come from all walks of life, including midwives, fireman and teachers, and Humes revealed that even a Gladiator took part but “it’s not as easy as he thought.”

If Ninja Warrior turns out to be half as popular as Gladiators was all those years ago we’ll be constructing obstacle courses in our gardens and watching novices come a cropper all over the internet. It’s been a huge hit in the U.S, with even Ellen DeGeneres and Usher tackling the course:
