3-year-old Blue Ivy becomes the victim of merciless internet trolls

Judging by recent pictures released by Beyoncé, her 3-year-old daughter Blue Ivy is a happy, healthy, well-adjusted little girl.

The singer posted photos of her family taken at her mother Tina Knowles’ recent wedding to her longtime beau Richard Lawson. Beyoncé’s husband and Blue Ivy’s father Jay Z were in attendance, as well as Bey’s sister Solange. Everyone at the event was glowing with the happiness of the occasion, especially the littlest guest, Blue Ivy, who Knowles credits with helping her marriage come to fruition. “[In September] we went on a boat with Beyoncé and Jay Z and when we came out one night dressed to go to dinner, Blue said, ‘Oh, y’all look beautiful. When are you going to get married?'” the bride said to People magazine. “Richard said, ‘Oh, Blue, soon. Do you approve?'”

In the pics, which you can see on Beyoncé’s site, Jay Z, Beyoncé and Blue Ivy all look beautiful and appear to be having the time of their lives. It’s safe to say there’s no way anyone on Earth could think of a negative thing to say about the photos, right? Wrong. A slew of people took to Twitter to spew hateful comments about Blue Ivy’s appearance.

What about these photos triggered angry keyboard jockeys to post horrible things about a baby’s appearance? Is it jealousy because Blue Ivy is obviously privileged? Is it to cure boredom by causing other people to come to the toddler’s defense? We could speculate until the end of time, but there will never be an excuse. Even the seemingly benign critiques like “Blue Ivy isn’t even that cute” are out of line.

When did it become OK to publicly bash somebody’s appearance, child or not? It’s a sad commentary on our society that some people feel the need to put unwarranted, negative energy out into the universe.

And it’s not the first time Blue Ivy has been attacked. Back in June of 2014, someone started a hateful petition on change.org, asking for Beyoncé to “comb her hair.”

There’s no doubt that Blue Ivy will come out on top of this situation. She’s got a stable home, loving parents and, judging by the comments made by her grandmother, is smart as a whip. It’s just horrible to think that in this day and age, we should even have to defend the appearance of a 3-year-old.
