Robert Downey Jr. made headlines last week after he walked out of an inappropriate interview with British journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy — and everyone totally understood why he’d want to exit that interview as fast as possible. Now, the actor is opening up about the reasons why he cut the interview short.

Speaking during a recent appearance on the Howard Stern Show on Tuesday, the Avengers: Age of Ultron actor explained that his only regret from walking out that uncomfortable interview was that he didn’t do it sooner.
“I just wish I’d left sooner,” Downey told Stern of the interview. “I’m one of those guys who I’m always assuming the social, kind of, decorum is in play. And that we’re promoting a superhero movie, a lot of kids are going to see it, and this has nothing to do with your creepy, dark agenda that I’m feeling all of a sudden, like, ashamed and obligated to accommodate your weirdo shit.”

In the clip, which showed the Iron Man star exiting the interview, he can be heard telling Guru-Murthy, “You seem OK, but things are just getting a little Diane Sawyer in here.” But the actor has clearly changed his mind because he now referred to the journalist as “a bottom-feeding muckraker.”
And this was not even the worst of Downey’s comments directed at Guru-Murthy, because he went on to explain that if another journalist tries to do what Guru-Murthy did — bring up his dark past, including his drug abuse and time spent in jail — then he is not going to suffer them gladly.

“What I have to do in the future is I just have to give myself permission to say, ‘That is more than likely a syphilitic parasite, and I need to distance myself from this clown. Otherwise, I’m probably going to put hands on somebody, and then there’s a real story.'”
