Bruce Jenner’s car crash has caused some serious repurcussions

Bruce Jenner‘s complicated year just got more difficult after he was served with a lawsuit stemming from a fatal car accident.

The high Jenner was riding after his interview with Diane Sawyer, in which he disclosed that he is transgender, came crashing down this week when he was sued by the stepchildren of a woman killed in the February accident.

Law enforcement officials say that video of the car crash definitely lays the blame on Jenner — he just wasn’t paying attention and rear-ended Kim Howe, sending her vehicle careening into oncoming traffic, where she hit another vehicle head-on. Howe was pronounced dead at the scene.

Howe’s adult stepchildren are suing Jenner for an undisclosed amount, but despite the fact that Jenner is obviously culpable as far as blame goes, the two might have a hard time proving they deserve any damages. Sources close to Howe told TMZ she had virtually no relationship with her stepkids, whose father passed away years ago, and Howe’s entire estate was left to various charities — not them.

Basically, proving that Howe’s stepchildren are missing out on anything monetarily because of their stepmother’s death — even alienation of affection — is going to be very difficult, despite the fact that California law allows the suit.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the crash, but it does not look like Jenner will face any charges. He was driving under the speed limit and was obeying all traffic laws; he just spaced out for a second.

My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident,” Jenner said in a statement following the accident. “It is a devastating tragedy and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time.”

“I am praying for them,” he continued. “I will continue to cooperate in every way possible.”

Jenner’s rep had no comment on the lawsuit.
