Need proof? Look no further than the singer’s birthday tweet, which showed her dressed in drag as George Michael and absolutely rocking it.

“Thank you for the birthday wishes I had a wonderful time!” Adele captioned a collection of snaps of herself rocking poofy ’80s hair, aviator shades and scruffy fake facial hair. “I was my hero x #gottahavefaith.”

Adele has been noticeably absent from the spotlight for well over a year after skyrocketing to fame following the overwhelming success — and six Grammy Award wins — of her album 21 in 2011. It was the first album to sell more than 3 million digital copies, and it won awards in multiple countries.

Adele’s birthday snaps were a pleasant surprise for fans, because the “Someone Like You” singer doesn’t tweet often — her last social media update was about World Water Day in March, and prior to that, she hadn’t posted since last December, when she wished her 22 million followers happy holidays.

And the post got some attention from Adele’s self-proclaimed hero, fellow British soul singer George Michael, who tweeted his own birthday wishes to the star.

“Happy Birthday @OfficialAdele !!!” he wrote. “I’m so flattered, love The Singing Greek! xxx.”

Here’s hoping Adele’s flawless birthday look sparks a new trend: Dress as your hero on your birthday, regardless of gender, and look totally great doing it.
