Natalie Portman will never win an Oscar again, thanks to her recent comment

Don’t ask Natalie Portman where her Oscar is, because she doesn’t know for sure.

“I think it’s in the safe or something,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t know. I haven’t seen it in a while.”

Portman won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2010 for her role in Black Swan. She said she hasn’t displayed her statuette because she doesn’t want her son to get any ideas about it.

“I was reading the story of Abraham to my child and talking about, like, not worshipping false idols,” Portman explained. “And this is literally like gold men. This is literally worshipping gold idols — if you worship it. That’s why it’s not displayed on the wall. It’s a false idol.”

Oddly, though, Portman, who won’t display her Oscar statuette for religious reasons, said she prefers Paris, where she now lives with her husband and 3-year-old son, over the United States because it isn’t a religious place.

“I feel like [the U.S.] has a lot of religion and a lot of freedom around that; and [in France], the religion is almost like love,” she said. “Love and intellectualism is their sort of way.”

But Portman, who was born Neta-Lee Hershlag in Jerusalem and raised in New York, said she also prefers Paris for its cultural scene.

“I love that my kid wants to go to art museums after school,” she said. “I love that it’s also not elitist, as it is in New York. You can afford to go to the philharmonic or the opera much more easily because all of it’s subsidized. And there’s a huge culture of cinema there.”
