The Vampire Diaries Executive Producer Julie Plec prepares fans for more than one goodbye in the Season 6 finale.
Have your tissues at the ready, The Vampire Diaries fans. Tonight’s Season 6 finale is going to be heartbreaking for more reasons than Elena’s farewell. Not only is Nina Dobrev leaving the series behind, but Michael Trevino (Tyler) is saying goodbye as well.
Add in Jo and the fate of her unborn children hanging in the balance after Kai’s (Christopher Wood) deadly wedding crashing antics, and executive producer Julie Plec has created the perfect storm of heartbreak for fans. Plec tries to ease the blow in a new finale teaser, but can anything truly prepare fans for so much pain?
“This episode is incredibly bittersweet,” Plec promises. “Anytime you say goodbye to a character, especially one as important as Elena Gilbert, there is always a sense of loss, and a sense of mourning.”

But what about Trevino? In an exit interview with E! Online, Trevino reveals, “In the finale, there’s a decision that Tyler’s going to have to make, and it’s probably one of the biggest decisions he’s ever made in his life.” The most troubling part? Trevino says his decision will be “fatal” for characters who aren’t Tyler.
