Bristol Palin apologizes to fans in open letter after canceling her wedding

Bristol Palin has finally broken her silence about her wedding, which was suddenly called off just weeks before it would have happened.

Palin expressed her gratitude for supportive fans on her blog Tuesday, where she posted a picture of herself and her 6-year-old son, Tripp, along with her first public statement about the called-off wedding.

“I feel like I need to address the elephant-in-the-room on this blog, since you guys have been with me through thick and thin. When I first got engaged, you were the first ones I wanted to tell,” Palin wrote. “I guess you have seen by now that the wedding — that was supposed to happen last weekend — was called off. I’m sure you’ve seen this has been all over the media, but this is a painful time for family and friends and I would just really appreciate your prayers.”

She continued, “I know God’s plan is greater than anything else, and Tripp and I are in Alaska beginning to rebuild our lives under much different circumstances than we anticipated. Thank you for all of your love and support.”

On her Facebook page, she shared the blog post, along with the message, “Sorry it’s taken me so long to talk about this… it’s been hard.”

But some women aren’t buying that Palin’s planned nuptials were legit, speculating on Twitter that the “I dos” were called off because Palin couldn’t pitch them as a reality show or because her fiancé wanted to “dodge a bullet.”

There’s still no word about why Palin actually broke off her engagement to former Marine and U.S. Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer just before the wedding, which was planned for May 23. The two got engaged in March, reportedly at a Rascal Flatts concert.

Palin vehemently denied rumors that her relationship ended because of Meyer’s secret past marriage.

“Regarding salacious headlines in recent days about ‘secret wives,’ Dakota and I discussed our past relationships prior to our engagement,” she wrote on her mother’s Facebook page. “Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers.”
