Matt Lauer lands first Tracy Morgan interview post-Walmart settlement

Tracy Morgan has finally reached a settlement with Walmart after the June 7, 2014, crash that left him with a traumatic brain injury.

It has been nearly a year since the tragic accident involving a Walmart 18-wheeler that took comedy writer James McNair’s life and left comedian Tracy Morgan (30 Rock) with a traumatic brain injury, but on Wednesday, Morgan finally reached a settlement agreement with Walmart. The amount of the agreement has not been disclosed, but in a statement, Morgan said, “Wal-Mart [sic] did right by me and my family, and for my associates and their families. I am grateful that the case was resolved amicably.”

Since the accident, Morgan has not appeared publicly, but he will finally break his silence on Monday, June 1, on The Today Show in an exclusive interview with Matt Lauer. Morgan’s attorney Benedict Morelli confirmed Morgan’s appearance on The Today Show this morning and revealed he will accompany his client. Morelli also reminded Lauer that as dark as the past year has been for Morgan and his family, the comedian’s sense of humor is still intact.

“Matt, I want you to know Tracy wanted me to tell you you’re much cuter in person,” Morelli said.

While Morelli refrained from commenting on the details of the settlement, he did confirm that money was involved and that Morgan and the other clients he represents believe Walmart stepped up and took full responsibility for the accident.

Speaking on Morgan’s behalf, Morelli told Lauer that Morgan was happy to have closure on this painful period of his life. Watch the interview with Morelli below, and to see Morgan speak out publicly for the first time since the crash, tune in to The Today Show on NBC Monday morning.
