ABC’s ‘Brokeback Bachelor’ upsets the gay community with insensitive tweet

We can’t be the only ones completely confused by The Bachelorette‘s reported gay story line this season.

The new promo for the show dubs Bachelorette contestant Clint as the “Brokeback Bachelor” after he and Season 11 villain JJ seem to spark up a romance instead of falling in love with Kaitlyn.

Now, I’m all for falling in love with whomever you want, whenever you want. And if the two really do have feelings for one another, more power to them.

But Clint seems to find the story line insanely amusing. And he and JJ don’t seem to be taking the promo seriously at all. Meaning it might just be some huge, cleverly edited joke on The Bachelorette‘s part.

And, if that’s the case, it’s incredibly insensitive to the LGBT community.

But if this really were a man’s coming out, it would be much more emotional. It wouldn’t be treated as a big joke, which is the way Clint and the show have been acting.

Well, the joke just might be on ABC, because if it turns out that this is a cleverly edited bromance, The Bachelorette is going to lose a lot of its gay viewers.

Between this mockery and the way the show set up the two ladies to vie against one another and then shamed Kaitlyn for having sex, this season is shaping up to be a disaster of epic proportions.

I appreciate that we live in the 21st century. And maybe the fact that we can joke about our sexuality so openly just proves that we’re progressing past that awkward stage. But a line is drawn when you go from joking to mocking someone’s way of life. If it turns out Clint and JJ really don’t have feelings for one another and the whole thing was just supposed to be funny, ABC and The Bachelorette will look like insensitive fools all around.
