The tour was scheduled to begin Sept. 18, but ticket holders received this message on Friday:
“The Iggy Azalea Great Escape Tour scheduled for this fall has been cancelled and refunds are available at point of purchase. There will be a new tour planned around Iggy’s new record to be released in 2016 and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
This is the second time Azalea has canceled a tour. She first postponed in March because of reported production delays. Azalea explained on AMP Radio, “I don’t want to have an average tour with a normal stage and this kind of thing. I want people to come and really feel they got their money’s worth… and they want to come back and tell their friends about it. So that’s a risk that I took and I hope people still come.”

And while Azalea is reportedly delaying the tour until 2016 to time it with her new album, we can’t help but wonder if this commenter is actually spot-on about the real reason behind the tour cancellation.

To make matters worse, Azalea has yet to comment on the situation, which makes behind-the-scenes trouble with sales and marketing seem all the more likely.

The Wrap already reported some trouble back in March, after multiple sources told them Azalea was unwilling to work with her management to complete the promotion necessary to make the tour a success. An insider who spoke with the outlet said Azalea had become “disengaged from her core team” and wouldn’t do press that was “crucial” to sell the show.
Of course, many hugely successful artists, like Rihanna, suffer from tough tour sales. It could just be that selling out huge arenas isn’t Azalea’s strong suit. She still manages to have a host of No. 1 hits, so if we were her, we wouldn’t be too concerned no matter the real reason for the tour delay. Just as long as this is the last time she lets down her fans.
