Amy Schumer wins Peabody, but people only care about her Tina Fey kiss

This year’s winners of the prestigious Peabody Awards may have been announced last month, but that didn’t stop the awards presentation on Sunday night from being not only memorable, but unexpectedly hilarious.

The Peabody Awards are among the most coveted and highly regarded awards. The honor recognizes distinguished American radio and television stations, networks, online media, producing organizations and individuals. The Peabody Award recognizes excellence in quality, not popularity, but they got both in Schumer.

The awards are traditionally presented by host Fred Armisen, so it was a bit of a twist when instead of the winner, Armisen called on Tina Fey to present Amy Schumer her award.

Fey’s introduction and praise of the young comedian’s work were spot-on. She said, “Many people will tell you that you can never joke about rape, but it is all about context and point of view, and Amy and the Inside Amy Schumer show’s brilliant sketch about sexual abuse in the military as filtered through violent, combat video games was inarguably funny and so, so rapey.”

She continued, “Amy Schumer is killing it, as the agents like to say. Usually, they are lying. But in this case, it is true. Amy is killing it. She is the biggest deal in comedy right now.”

And, in true Fey fashion, she then said, “I really wanted to come down here tonight, and in a Madonna kind of way try to like feed off of her youth and maybe suck her soul out in a very awkward, staged lesbian kiss. But when I pitched that idea to Amy’s camp, they came back with such an immediate yes that it kind of grossed me out.”

Fey joked about how she thought it “didn’t feel right” though so, “Instead, I think we should just give you a really prestigious award.”

But you didn’t think they weren’t really going to lock lips, did you?

They did, and it was glorious, hilarious and hopefully we will have a video of it soon, but we do have a few photos snapped by other guests as photographic evidence of the two women’s awesomeness.

A huge congratulations to Amy Schumer on her monumental accomplishment and being that she is only 33 years old, I think it is fair to expect lots of great things from her for years to come.
