What’s the future of feminism? Well, it’s gotta be “proud, positive, powerful, perseverant and, wherever possible, alliterative.”

At least, according to one feminist… pig.
Miss Piggy (OK, actually the Muppet Studios pretending to be Miss Piggy, but that’s not important) penned a hilarious op-ed for Time magazine including those Ps of feminism and a lot of the reasons the famous Muppet considers herself to be a feminist.
The piece is in response to (probably a lot of) haters who think a person may have been a better choice than a puppet for the award that Miss Piggy is being honored with: a Sackler First Award from the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, an award previously given to such strong and influential women as Sandra Day O’Connor and Toni Morrison.
“Now for those who haven’t been paying attention to moi’s massive media blitz about this accolade: The prestigious Sackler Center First Award is presented to women who have broken barriers and charted changes in all disciplines and areas,” the famous pig explains. “Some Internet opinion-givers may question whether moi deserves such an honor. After all, some might say moi is just a mere Hollywood celebrity who cares more about her appearance, her star billing, and her percentage of the gross than about women and women’s rights.”

To put it in Piggy’s own words, she deserves the award because, “I believe that any woman who refuses to accept society’s pre-conceived notions of who or what they can be is a feminist. I believe any woman who is willing to struggle, strive — and if necessary learn karate — to make their mark in the world is a feminist. And, yes, I believe that any woman who cares about her appearance, her star billing and most especially her percentage of the gross, is a feminist.”
And, of course, “Moi is all of these things.”
