Me and Earl and the Dying Girl exclusive clip screams teen angst (VIDEO)

After winning the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is the quirkiest, funniest and most emotionally powerful film of the year so far. Take a look at our exclusive clip.

The new indie film, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, is based on the YA novel of the same name by Jesse Andrews, who also wrote the screenplay. The story is about Greg (Thomas Mann), an insecure high school kid who manages his high school experience with a favored nations approach: He’s friendly with everyone, but never close friends with anyone. Finding a BFF or engaging in a romance isn’t something Greg is good at and prefers to avoid altogether. This strategy works for a while until Greg’s Mom (Connie Britton), intervenes.

Turns out there’s a student at Greg’s high school, Rachel (Olivia Cooke), who’s fallen ill with cancer. Greg’s Mom urges Greg to visit the sick girl and befriend her.

In this clip, we see Greg in a desperate attempt to rebuff his mother’s request. Given his social fear of getting close to anyone, especially to a girl who’s dying, he’ll say or do anything to get out of going to see her.

While the film shares similar themes with 2014’s The Fault in Our Stars, it is a distinctly different story, told in a really fresh way as it explores a whole range of emotions its predecessor does not. But like TFIOS, you may need a box of tissues.
