Zoe Saldana reveals how studios reacted to her pregnancy news

Zoe Saldana has faced sexism in Hollywood firsthand — and she’s not afraid to share her experiences.

In an interview with USA Today, the new mom to twin boys shared that when she started sharing her pregnancy news, she was startled by the way studios reacted.

“Let me tell you something, it will never be the right time for anybody in your life that you get pregnant,” Saldana revealed. She continued that when she announced her pregnancy, “The productions I was slated to work on sort of had a panic. I heard through the grapevine there was even a conversation of me being written off of one of the projects.”

If this is true, being written out of a project is the same as being fired, which means the studio was considering illegal action because they were so afraid about their filming timeline.

Saldana’s reaction proves she was just as shocked.

I was like, ‘Oh, my God, are you kidding me? It’s this bad?’ Right when I just feel super-duper happy, is that inconvenient for you? That me, as a woman in my thirties, I finally am in love and I am finally starting my life? And it’s [screwing] your schedule up? Really?”

Saldana’s frustrations are relatable to a lot of women who experience the same pressures as they try to balance their career and life. The actress, who is currently prepping for Star Trek 3, proves that just because she’s in the spotlight, doesn’t mean she’s exempt from the same struggles others are.

“The battle will always be in trying to balance it out,” the actress said. “That’s the most exhausting thing, the balance of it all. But it helps when you’re doing it with your companion. If I know Marco is trying to balance it as well, then I feel like I’m not alone.”
