Tiger Woods called out as a cheater in the most scandalous way

Tiger Woods‘ cheating past is still haunting him today.

The superstar pro golfer had a rough day on the course during this year’s U.S. Open, a tournament he’s won three times before. This year, however, Woods racked up four bogeys in his first seven holes. And who can blame him? He was probably a little distracted with “cheater” still hanging over his head — literally.

During the first day of play, a small plane circled over Woods’ head trailing a banner that read “Cheater.” Sure, maybe the banner was aimed at someone else entirely and it was just a coincidence. Or maybe not.

It’s no wonder after the cheating scandal that rocked Woods’ career in 2009. For those who don’t remember the details, a quick refresher: Woods and his then-wife, Elin Nordegren, got into a domestic dispute outside their Florida home and, in the days that followed, it was revealed that Woods had had extramarital affairs with countless women. He and Nordegren divorced less than a year later.

“I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted to,” Woods told reporters at the time. “I felt that I had worked hard my entire life and deserved to enjoy all the temptations around me. I felt I was entitled. Thanks to money and fame, I didn’t have to go far to find them. I was wrong. I was foolish.”

With all that ugly history still following him around (again, literally), Woods played Thursday like he was totally distracted — at one point, while taking a shot from the rough, he lost his grip on his club and it went flying out of his hand. Yikes.

It’s all reminiscent of a similar incident just weeks ago, when Bobby Flay’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star reveal was overshadowed by a plane pulling a similar “Cheater” banner.

The last time Woods won the U.S. Open was in 2008, before his dirty little secrets became public. By the looks of his game so far this year, that’s not about to change.
