Chris Pratt calls for equality in Hollywood with hilarious body-image message

Chris Pratt is pretty much already everyone’s favorite actor: he’s funny, he’s talented, he’s charming — and now he’s made a powerful point about equality in Hollywood.

The Jurassic World actor has previously spoken about his decision to get in shape — and, might we say, he is in great shape indeed — but when asked by Radio 4’s Front Row if having a toned physique is essential as a male actor, Pratt responded with a surprising answer.

“Never in a calculated way, but in hindsight, yeah. [A] huge part of how my career has shifted is based on the way that I look, on the way that I’ve shaped my body to look,” Pratt told the radio station, via Yahoo! U.K.

Pratt then admitted that he now feels “totally objectified” but that he’s not at all worried about this.

“I think it’s OK, I don’t feel appalled by it,” he added. But there is something that he does feel appalled about, and that’s the double standard that exists for men and women in Hollywood.

“I think it’s appalling that for a long time only women were objectified, but I think if we really want to advocate for equality, it’s important to even things out,” Pratt said during his interview. “Not objectify women less, but objectify men just as often as we objectify women.”

However, he also confessed to believing that our bodies are objects, and he described this in a rather strange, yet delightful way.

“There are a lot of women who got careers out of it, and I’m using it to my advantage. And at the end of the day, our bodies are objects,” Pratt said. “We’re just big bags of flesh and blood and meat and organs that God gives us to drive around.”
