The Wet Hot American Summer trailer has arrived, and you won’t believe who all signed up for camp.
Camp Firewood is back in session, and there are more campers than ever before, including Jon freaking Hamm. OK, technically, Hamm doesn’t look like he’s playing a camper in the star-studded trailer. Instead, he’s a military man going toe to toe with soldier turned camp chef Christopher Meloni. That’s just one of several insane moments in the trailer — the Hamm/Meloni battle is second only to Nurse Nancy popping out her diaphragm and giving it to Elizabeth Banks. Insanity aside, the real draw is the laundry list of surprise celebrity cameo reveals.
The original cast is back including Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon and Michael Ian Black, but the trailer also revealed 10, yes 10, unexpected guest stars. Also joining the cast is the aforementioned Hamm, who completely steals the trailer, the always hilarious Kristin Wiig, Jordan Peele, Hamm’s Mad Men costar John Slattery, Michael Cera (in a suit?), Josh Charles, Chris Pine, “Weird Al” Yankovic, 30 Rock‘s Judah Friedlander and Lake Bell. So basically, every funny person who has made you laugh in the past decade or so is in this movie playing a 16-year-old camper.

Writer and director David Wain’s maniacal genius is on full display here. The big question is how will the newcomers fit in with the original stars? Bell is flirting with Ken Marino in her scene, and Pine appears to be some sort of rock god, but what is up with Cera, one of the youngest cast members, all suited up? Clearly, Wain is continuing to disregard age, leading me to wonder if Cera is a camp director or some other official type.

At least Hamm’s surprise role is cleared up as soon as he’s introduced. I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait to see what happens next in his face-off with Meloni. Wet Hot American Summer is going to be an exercise in wonderful insanity, and I cannot wait.
