But that doesn’t mean that her ex-boyfriend, Gary Shirley, is willing to share custody with Portwood — at least, not according to a report by Life & Style magazine.

A source revealed to the publication, “He’s not giving Leah up, not even partial custody.”

Shirley was awarded full custody of Leah in 2011 after Portwood was arrested for felony domestic battery charges. Apparently, Shirley still has some sore feelings when it comes to the past, because the source revealed his reason for not wanting to share custody, saying, “He doesn’t think she would do a good job taking care of her.”

The proud papa has proven himself as a fantastic and loving father, but Portwood has come a long way since her jail days, and she appears to be in a very positive place in her life at the moment. One of Portwood’s friends agrees that she has come a long way, and reportedly thinks Shirley is being a little bit unfair in his decision.

“Amber has worked so hard to get her life together,” the friend told the publication. “She’s on the right track.”

It’s a tough situation to be in for any parent.
