RHOBH‘s Kim Richards’ decision to flee rehab could be her worst one yet

Over the weekend, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kim Richards checked herself out of a Malibu rehab facility, where she was being treated for alcoholism. Initially, Kim set out for a three-month stint in rehab, but she has since decided that one month would suffice. Can anyone say “bad idea”?

After an altercation at the Polo Lounge in April — which ultimately resulted in Kim being arrested for public intoxication — the reality star checked herself into a treatment center to get help with her addiction. She planned to stay for a solid three months in hopes of getting the help she so desperately needs. Now, though, TMZ has reported that Kim fled the rehab center in the middle of the night. Her reason? She wasn’t a fan of the staff.

Sources told TMZ that Kim wasn’t getting along with the people who worked at the center — the doctors in particular — so she decided to up and leave before her three-month goal. However, a source told Radar Online that, despite everyone in the program telling her to stay, “Kim said that she was finally cured and is ready to get on with her life because she has so many projects right now and inpatient rehab does not fit into her schedule.” She reportedly is going to continue with outpatient treatment.

There’s a weird piece to this story, though. See, right now, the majority of Kim’s family is in London celebrating her niece Nicky Hilton’s wedding. It’s no secret that Kim’s family — her sister, Kyle Richards, in particular — has just about had it with her issues. So, it’s far too coincidental that Kim chose the time that everyone who would try to stop her and convince her not to leave rehab was out of the country. Kim totally knew what she was doing here.

This, of course, isn’t the first time that Kim has been in rehab, so it’s nothing her family hasn’t dealt with in the past. However, everyone must feel so helpless, being so far away from Kim right now. They’re supposed to be celebrating a joyous, happy occasion, and now they’ve received word that Kim checked herself out of rehab — and there’s nothing they can do about it. Talk about a sad and stressful situation.

Anyone who’s ever dealt with someone suffering from addiction knows that it’s never easy. Just when you think things are going to be okay, something happens and it feels like you’re back at square one. It’s horrible, and in a way, you never get used to it, no matter how many times it happens. But Kim’s family shouldn’t give up on her. They need to continue to try to get her the help she needs to the best of their ability. Then, if (heaven forbid) anything ever were to happen, they’d know they did everything they could.

Hopefully, the reports are true and Kim will continue to go to outpatient treatment. It’s something, right? But if I were Kim’s family, I wouldn’t have a very good feeling about this. I haven’t heard of too many good outcomes coming from people who have left rehab early, thinking they were “cured.” Here’s to hoping I’m wrong.
