Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC movie: Everything we know about the zombie film

Yep, we had to read it twice, too: The members of the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC will be starring together in a zombie apocalypse movie — produced by the studio behind Sharknado. This just keeps getting better.

The news broke at San Diego Comic-Con, where Nick Carter — from the beloved Backstreet Boys — made an appearance to promote the film. Here’s everything we know so far.

1. Nick Carter will be the star

Nick will now be a quadruple threat by adding screenwriter to his résumé. He will write the screenplay as well as play the lead in the film — Jack, the unsung hero.

2. It’s about… zombies

Originally, the film was supposed to be a zombie-Western genre mix. But Nick told E! News that he “wanted to make it more modern and apocalyptic than an old Western.” According to Rolling Stone, it’s abouta “‘ragtag band of gunslingers fighting a zombie plague.”

3. The Asylum is set to produce

The Asylum, the production company for Sharknado and dozens of other sci-fi films, will produce the new film. David Latt, cofounder of The Asylum, told Rolling Stone that several distributors he works with responded immediately to Nick’s idea.

4. It’s called Dead 7

Nick explains to E! News, “I started writing this screenplay, Dead West, close to five years ago but it wasn’t till about two years ago that we really started to make it happen. It was first called Dead West but was told that could be too limiting […].” So, for now, it’s Dead 7.

5. Boy bands will unite!

Currently, Backstreet’s Howie Dorough and A.J. McLean and *NSYNC’s Joey Fatone are on board with the project. But it’s still in its early stages and “Nick’s vision is to bring some other people in that genre that have never really done a lot of film but that were in music in the nineties and 2000s,” Fatone tells Rolling Stone.

6. An NKOTB member may join

Nick would like to have Jordan Knight from New Kids on the Block join the cast. According to Rolling Stone, Nick explains, “I want it to be musically based. I might reach out to Jordan […]”

7. McLean is the villain

McLean — always the baddest of the boys — will fill the role as the villain in the post-apocalyptic film.

8. Nick will have a brother

In the movie, a love triangle forms between Nick and his brother — but, no, not Aaron. For this role, Nick has called out to One Direction’s Niall Horan via Twitter.

9. Nick tweets a lot, actually

Niall isn’t the only celeb Nick has his eye on. He has reached out to several candidates — including Mel B from the Spice Girls, Sisqó and even Paul McCartney — to star in the film, again, via Twitter.

10. Nick’s wife will debut

According to E! News, Nick’s top choice for the ingenue caught in the love triangle between him and his brother would be… Hilary Duff! Hmmm… she’s Aaron’s ex-girlfriend, remember? But, in any case, Nick’s wife, Lauren, will be appearing in the film.
